Welcome to Changeworks Blog.  This is a source of thoughts and revelations on communications, change and related topics.  It also serves as an inquiry into practical ways to reduce stress and increase performance.  By increasing coherence and resilience and reducing stress - either at individual or organisational levels - we can more easily obtain states of optimum performance, even when faced with significant pressures in our lives. 

Stress is defined as the ‘adverse reaction people have to excessive pressures or other types of demand placed on them’ (HSE 2001).  Essentially stress is what happens when the pressure or demands experienced by an individual exceed their perceived ability to cope.  Coherence is closely linked to the state of ‘flow’ or talked about as being in the ‘zone’.  It is essentially where the brain’s ability to process information, including decision making, problem solving and creativity, is heightened. 

In this state, people experience improved memory, greater mental clarity, and significantly improved performance.  It also induces heightened energy levels.  Coherence is a term used by scientists to describe a highly efficient physiological state in which the nervous, cardiovascular, hormonal and immune systems are working efficiently and harmoniously.
